Dangerfield - Guitar Trio

Dangerfield - Nigel Hess - 3 Guitars

This is the charming TV Theme to the UK series Dangerfield. You may not know the music, but it definitely deserves to be more widely known.

It has hints of Bach’s Prelude in C (from the ‘48’) and the famous Prelude from the first Cello Suite too. By altering the key from the original two flats, it fits 3 guitars (or a larger ensemble) particularly well. Each part switches between busy arpeggios and lush harmonies and there are several key changes which together make the piece a delight to listen to and fun to play too.

The parts are intermediate in complexity, though the speed of the piece can be a challenge. However, the rich sound of the classical guitar means that the piece works well at a slightly slower tempo than the original orchestral version.

There is minimal fingering because there are multiple places on the neck where the top two parts can be played, and it’s best if players choose the positions that work best for them.
