A Nightingale Sang - String Quartet

A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square - string quartet

Made famous by the mellifluous voice of Nat King Cole and later, given a new lease of life by Manhattan Transfer, the harmonies in this piece are lush and the key changes are exquisite.

My arrangement for string quartet combines the sustain in some parts with chromatic movement in others, to create a lush carpet of sound. But my arrangement is also very accessible, primarily in the lowest positions on each instrument, bringing the piece to a large number of quartets/small ensembles, from schools to amateur adults.
