The Holly And The Ivy - 3 Guitars/large ensemble

This charming English carol is arranged here for 3 intermediate guitars (or a larger ensemble).

I’ve set my arrangement in the same key that the original choral version is widely played in, and so this is a great Christmas piece for “audience participation” at a school or adult Christmas concert, and the words are included. And it’s great as an instrumental too.

My arrangement features a dreamy introduction, with straightforward natural harmonics, and then three verses so that each of the parts features on the tune. To perform the whole carol, the three verses are repeated, matching the 6 verses of the original. The swapping of players and the changes of texture will keep the interest of the audience. Finally there’s a Coda which echoes the opening.
