Coronation Street - Guitar Trio

Coronation Street (TV Theme) - 3 Guitars

If you live in the UK, you'll know of the soap opera called Coronation Street, which started in 1960 and still continues to go from strength to strength. Indeed, its fame extends far beyond the UK. And the opening and closing music is just so distinctive... The sad and poignant music is essentially unchanged after all these years - quite some achievement!

Written by Eric Spears, and featuring a cornet as the melody instrument, it seemed a ridiculous task to try to arrange this for 3 guitars. And surely, moving from Ab to the guitar-friendly key of A would make the music far too bright and quite unlike the original. Well, try it and you’ll find that it works really well. More than that, it’s a great piece for simply connecting to an audience and making them smile.

My arrangement is based on a 1960’s recording of the whole piece, (including a two bar introduction which you may feel can safely be omitted).

Guitar 2 (the chords) is a little harder than the other two lines, but it’s all low-position work with no barrés.

Guitar 3 is supplied in both treble and bass clefs - you can use one or both in your ensemble. And it’s ideal for those with limited experience of guitar.

On Sheet Music Plus, the preview lets you see a little of the full score and a part score.
