Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the lessons held?
I teach in Bedhampton, Havant; it's close to the A3M & A27; it's an easy journey from Chichester, Emsworth & Havant on the east, from Fareham, Cosham & Farlington on the west, from Portsmouth & Southsea from the south, and from Petersfield, Horndean, Rowlands Castle & Waterlooville from the north.
I'm close to the 21 & 23 bus stop from Havant & Portsmouth, and a short walk from Bedhampton station.
I will send you an online map if you book a trial lesson
I don't have a guitar. How much do they cost? Where do I get one?
I can recommend a variety of makes of guitar to suit every calibre of player and every pocket, ranging from £100 to £2000. I can recommend local shops.
When can I start?
If you enjoy your trial lesson and I have a vacant slot at a time that suits you, you can commence lessons as soon as you like - paying pro-rata till the end of the current term, and then continuing in full terms.
What are your terms and conditions?
Apart from occasional one-off lessons, I charge by the term so that you reserve a block of my time. See the fees page.
Easter and the Bank Holidays in May can affect how many sessions I can fit into each term, but I try to plan for three 10-week terms, each with a break at half-term.
What about music and strings?
I can provide music at cost and strings at a discount, to save you the time and effort of getting your own.
I can't read music, is that a problem?
Not at all - I can teach you, and I have tricks up my sleeve to make the learning easy!
I haven't got a musical bone in my body, is that a problem?
Well, it's more likely that you simply haven't enjoyed the chance to make, rather than listen to, music - it's very different!

Do you have any vacancies right now?
The situation is always changing. Please contact me via the webform or ring me on 023 9247 9200
Evenings book up very quickly, but if you're retired I can almost certainly fit you in during the day
Am I the right age to start?
If you're reading this, then yes! I'm reticent about teaching very young children because the guitar requires a lot more co-ordination and dexterity than virtually any other instrument just to get a few notes out, and it can be frustrating for youngsters. At the other end of the scale, I've taught people in their seventies and eighties, and the sky's the limit. I can tailor the lessons to take account of stiff fingers and the need for a gentle pace.
