Brief Study Notes
This is a traditional Hungarian song - Boots of Shining Leather. Although a duet, you can, of course, duplicate instruments on either part if you have more players.
Like the Cherubini Allegretto, the most appealing feature of this piece is that the second part is merely the tune displaced to the right. Unlike the Cherubini, there are no repeats and so there's no need to use a second stave - the second part simply starts half a bar after the first. Neither part is "harder" or "more important", and so it's an ideal ice-breaker for a new Ensemble group. It's not a complete "round", as no further replications can be added. But the way in which the music sounds so complicated and weaves so effortlessly from just two notes is quite something.
You'll enjoy this! With a cassette recorder, you can even try this one out at home.
