Brief Study Notes
- Are you a teacher looking for something which will work first time
for 2, 3 or 4 pupils for Christmas?
Do you play in a quartet or trio and fancy a really, really lively piece?
Try "Here is Joy for Every Age" - a wonderful little tune
from the 13th Century. But the surprise is not in the simplicity of
the arrangement, it's that everyone who has heard it has enjoyed it
so very much. You can play it slowly or you can go at one heck of a
rate!
In our local town centre we often have buskers - musicians of a whole
range of abilities - playing for joy. One couple use a Hurdy-Gurdy,
and letter A at this piece is written to produce that same rhythmic
drone that brings the High Street to life.
Playing Teacher/Pupil, the tutor can play lines 3 and 4 together in
a trio, or take the fastest line, line 2, in a quartet.
My pupils played this in a recent Christmas Charity Concert. If your
browser is MP3 capable, you can hear some of it. The Concert,
in aid of the Breast Screening Unit at our local hospital, was enjoyed
by an audience of 167 and raised £1245 - about $2000 US - for
the Charity.
