About the Station Theatre Hayling
Formerly the end of the line for the Hayling Billy, a steam shuttle from Havant to Hayling, this whole site was left to decay when the railway was closed as part of Dr Beeching's axing of many rural routes. Now owned by the Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society (HIADS), the building has been lovingly refurbished using many of the original materials - roof timbers for the stage substructure for example.
Home to a compelling mix of drama, music and exhibitions, the building is in regular use.
Travel directions
Arriving by train
If only the Hayling Billy line were still open! Nearest station is now Havant, which is a bus or taxi ride.
Arriving by car
From the west, take the M27. From the east, take the A27. From the north, take the A3M and exit as it bears right, going instead over the roundabout and left onto the A27.
At the Havant flyover, turn off and head south onto Hayling Island. After a mile or so, the road crosses the water onto the Island, and after another mile, the road zig-zags left, then right then left. At that last zig-zag, turn right into West Lane. After two miles, at a T-junction, turn right (still West Lane) and at the next T-junction turn right into Station Road. As you pass the theatre turn right into its car-park.
