St Philip's - Cosham concert venue

About St Philip's Church Cosham

Situated in a large estate that is hemmed in on the north and east by the railway, and on the south by the A27 trunk road, this Church was built in 1937 to serve the houses that were springing up around it.

Designed by Sir Ninian Comper, the Church typifies the Anglo-Catholic designs of a man said by many to be one of the definitive Church architects of the 20th Century, and this was, indeed, his last major work.

Inside, the altar nestles inside a ciborium, something that had become a tradition in his more recent churches.

Proceed along the road for about 400m. There is plenty of on-street parking, though please ensure the residents' driveways are not obstructed.

Accessibility

The Hall has level access for wheelchairs via the West Door, though there are currently no disabled toilets in the building.

Although the Church has a number of slender pillars, it can seat 200 with excellent visibility - there are seats in the north and south aisles that offer as good a view as those directly in front - just the right size for everyone to see and hear!

As with many of our Church Concerts, people have been known to bring a small cushion for the wooden seats!
