Christ Church - Widley concert venue

About Christ Church Portsdown

Situated on the old A3 London Road, this spacious Church and associated Church Hall complex is sited virtually at the top of Portsdown Hill and a few yards from spectacular views over Portsea Island.

We are indebted to the webmaster of Christ Church Portsdown for permission to use their photo (right) on our website. The copyright of the photo remains with the Church. You can see a larger version of this photo on their website.

As with many of the churches in Hampshire and Sussex, the structure is built of flint, and in fact the Church is surprisingly recent, consecrated in 1874.

Accessibility

The Church has level access for wheelchairs.

The Church grounds contain the Church Hall, where there is parking for a number of cars away from the main road.

Christchurch has a capacity of several hundred and, as you can see from the photo of the interior, it is beautifully decorated with a circular eastern end to the Church which captures the sound from the choir stalls and pushes it back to the audience - ideal for the gentle sound of classical guitar.
