My Pupils' Guitar Concerts
There's no thrill like that of playing to a large and appreciative audience!
Since 1989, I have organised Concerts for Charity - highlights in our year for many reasons :
- My players have a real goal and a real focus for their practice.
- My newest beginners can see and hear how their playing will progress
- The families of my players have a chance to hear whole pieces, not just middle parts!
- Others in the community discover just how much fun it can all be.
- It gives us an opportunity to support charitable projects in our community.
The charity angle is very important to me. There is nearly always at least one player in my classes whose family or friends are, at that moment,
indebted to a local charity for help and support - maybe because of illness or bereavement. I'm glad of a chance to raise money for local charities,
the works of which often only become apparent in times of crisis.
Over the years, we have raised over
£36386 for our local community.
A typical informal Concert has Workshop ensembles and solo items followed by food and drink and a huge raffle.
My slightly more formal Hampshire Guitar Orchestra concerts feature music played on 4 sizes of guitar.
Many of the Concerts are taped and the sales of CDs augment the fund-raising still further.
Come with me to the Concert Hall for details of our next concert, our past
concerts and the charities we've supported
Every pupil of mine who has given freely of their time and their efforts to help raise money for local charities gets my heartfelt
thanks, here, where it can be seen all over the world.
But this page is not a celebration of my achievements, it is a chance for me to recognise the enthusiasm, dedication,
commitment and talent of a large number of people who make my Ensemble groups so much fun.
And now you've met some of them...
All adults who started as beginners.
All thoroughly enjoying themselves.
And isn't that what Guitar playing is actually all about?
